What comes to mind when you think of Brunswick?
The City of Brunswick has tasked the Brunswick Economic Development Commission to take charge of Brunswick's "Brand". This community wide project invites everyone to take part in the development of an identity for the City of Brunswick.
What is a "brand"?
Most often famous consumer brands come to mind, "coca-cola" or "hershey". Did you know cities also have their own brands? Known as place branding, this marketing methodology is applied using image communication to a target market. It is invariably related to the notion that places compete with other places for people, resources, and businesses. More than a logo or slogan, a brand is a set of expectations, memories, stories and relationships that, taken together, account for a consumer's decesion to choose one place, product or service or another. Place branding essentially defines "the soul of the city"
Why are we "Branding Brunswick"?
Part of a larger community development program, Branding Brunswick is invaluable to addressing the following:
- Loss of income in a specific sector (i.e. tourism, economic development)
- A negative, non-exsistant, or conflicting image
- Increasing competition
- Attracting new businesses, visitors and residents
- Retaining businesses, visitors and residents
- Community pride
- Positive public relations
Your chance to participate!
This past fall focus groups formed in our community to identify a vision and impression of Brunswick. After analyzing hundreds of responses, the thoughts gathered will be used to determine a brand for Brunswick and a campaign to make it known this spring. We anticipate unvieling the brand in June 2012.
